Another overdue update…

We saw Dr. Bettis, the neurologist, last Thursday. I intended to make a blog post Thursday evening and all the sudden it is Tuesday! The appointment went great and Dr. Bettis had nothing but positive things to say. He reminded us that out of all the neonatal stroke victims he has seen over his career, zero have had additional strokes. After examining Ruby he mentioned had he not known her health history he would look at us and ask why we had brought a perfectly healthy baby in to see him. Because Ruby is doing so well he asked that we put off the second MRI until December. Apparently the longer we wait the more information the MRI will give him.

Next month we will have Ruby’s Protein C level tested as well as her hearing. Dr. Kim will set us up with the ophthalmologist over at the Elks Rehabilitation Center in November.

This weekend we are headed to the cabin to introduce Ruby to the Great Outdoors! It will be nice to go play around in the mountains! Papa Bear has a lot of fishing stories he is ready to share with Ruby…well actually he’s just ready to take Ruby fishing and as willing as I’m sure she will be we will have to hold off until she can actually hold a fishing pole!!! I think Grandma Gene has some hiking spots we might check out…if nothing else we get to sleep in and get some good rest (and take a million pictures of Ruby)!!

Check up…

Ruby’s check up with the pediatrician went very well yesterday. She weighed in at 10lb 4oz (75th percentile), her head is the 75th percentile (I didn’t catch the actual measurements) and her length is 23.5in which they say is off the charts…

Dr. Kim was very encouraged to see how well Ruby is doing. They do a neurologic exam (I can’t really explain all that they do) but Dr. Kim was very happy to see that Ruby is doing everything she is supposed to be doing. Dr. Kim is following up with some of the folks over at Elk’s Rehab just to see what their recommendation is for additional early hearing and vision screenings. Since the big stroke occurred in the visual cortex Dr. Kim wants to catch any affects that might have had on Ruby’s vision or hearing early…the sooner we catch these things the better outcome Ruby will have with therapy.

Busy baby girl...

Over the last few weeks Ruby has been busy continuing to meet all the friends and family that we are blessed to have in our lives. It just dawned on me last Thursday when we were visiting with Grandma Melva (one of Ruby’s GREATS) that Ruby has quite a few Great Grandparents! She’s had the opportunity to visit with her Great Granny & Gramp a couple times. She just met Great Grandpa Ford on Labor Day and saw Great Grandma Melva again last Thursday. Ruby is anxiously awaiting the opportunity to meet her Great Grandpa Provencio later this Fall as well as her Great Grandma Bolton!

This last weekend my cousin Lindsay and Aunt Jamie hosted a little shower in honor of little Miss Ruby. It was great to see a lot of the family and family friends we don’t see often enough. Ruby was surprised to see her Grandma Linda who flew in from Montana…an unexpected surprise! But, she wasn’t the only baby attending…we had Cousin Landon (almost 8 months) and one of Ruby’s best buds Max (2 months).

Ruby has her 1 month check up tomorrow with the pediatrician. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of progress we are making in the growing department! Next week we have a check up with the neurologist and we will be scheduling her 2nd MRI. From what we can tell she is doing great. She hasn’t shown any signs of seizures or any new strokes. She’s doing all the little baby things she is suppose to be doing…eating, pooping and wiggling both arms and legs a lot! I love every minute of it…

Love,
Leah

4 weeks today!

Ruby is officially 4 weeks old today and weighed in at 9lb 12oz. To celebrate we are taking Ruby to the Willie Nelson concert tonight! Of course when we bought the tickets we had no idea that Ruby would be born on Tuesday, Aug 10th…but it just worked out that way! I can’t imagine a better way of celebrating being 4 weeks old (all the other Willie fans know what I’m talking about..)!

Ruby and I enjoyed having her daddy home this past week. It gave us an opportunity to get use to getting out and about a little more. I also had a visit from my dear friend, Teresa. Ruby is slowly but surely getting to know everyone!
